Rapid fire question: What self-care tips help you maintain a healthier balance in life? Quickly share 'em here!
I exercise every morning that I can.
If I miss a day, I feel it. And I regret it.
Exercising has more influence over my state of mind during the workday than I ever thought it would, so - to me - it’s essential.
Self-care tip #1: Turn the phone off before 11pm (reduce that blue light!)
Self-care tip #2: Intermittent fasting from 7pm - 10am as often as possible (resist the urge for post-dinner dessert!)
I start each day my ice rolling my face and journaling using my 5 minute journal. It sets my day up for success. I also try to read for 20-30 minutes before bed.
Get in the sun, workout, eat healthy, listen to music.
Exercise, eat right, sleep well, avoid negativity.
Getting any exercise is great or going for a walk in the park to get some fresh air and leave your usual environment.
You guys are all super healthy! I’m in for the exercise part - literally nothing clears my mind better than a walk on my treadmill (treadmill is easiest where I live & with my schedule) and a quick 30-minute HGTV show while I walk. But my go-to way to turn off work at the end of the day and reconnect with family is a happy hour on our deck. No computers, no Slack (most of the time). Just family, maybe a beverage, and conversation about the day. Trying to do family dinners wasn’t always easy with kid activities and work, but the flexible, fast happy hour seemed to work (and bonus - the dogs love it and will literally obsess at the door if we don’t head to our patio table before sundown).
Go outside. Every day.
I found this fantastic sound/noise generation app called My Noise ( https://mynoise.net/ ) It provides a wide selection of background sounds that are so relaxing that I play it all day long. Free to use, but if you care to donate $5 (or more) it opens up a huge amount of content. Check it out!
Thanks Bill! I just downloaded it and love that there’s a “Calm Office” and “Cafe Restaurant” noise - makes me feel like I’m not WFH!
Those are great. I am a big fan of Japanese Garden…
I put my phone in the other room to avoid being distracted. I try to go for short walks every couple of hours.
Golden hour bike rides are fantastic. Highly recommend.
Going outside for a walk or run to get some fresh air and minimize screen time makes a real difference.
So you’re I need to have my dessert with breakfast and lunch
Exercise is great as others have said. I really feel more relaxed when I start the day following the book “8 Minute Meditation” (short paperback book) - and I meditate each day for 8 minutes between coffees. Another source worth checking out is Wim Hof on YouTube. Crazy good breathing exercises to have physical benefits and emotional benefits (in 2007 he tried hiking Mt Everest in shorts using breathing techniques to overcome the cold - got up to 24,000 feet in the snow! Amazing!)
I intentionally block out lunch in my calendar which gives me the freedom to chose how i want to spend it. lately I have been going to the gym to play basketball. Gets my mind off work, a meeting, etc and a quick reset to finish the day.
Obviously this is fluid and will depend on where I am in the quarter and if I am negotiating a deal, but by blocking it in my calendar, I get to decide.
I like this idea of meditation. Hard to picture myself doing it between coffees like you though. Fear I may get too wired and not be able to focus on the breathing.
I do the following every day:
- 30 minutes of exercise
- 15 minutes of meditation
- 15 minutes of reading
- 30 minutes of non-work passion (play the guitar, clean up the house, etc)
I also recently stopped drinking (2 weeks in) - and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I’m sleeping better, losing weight, and I feel the best I’ve ever felt.
